August 6, 2011 was a very dark day for a lot of people. 30 military servicemen and 1 military working dog were killed in action when Extortion 17, a Chinook helicopter, was downed in Afghanistan. Many of those men were part of the SEAL community. As many of you know, Hampton Roads has a huge SEAL presence. A very good friend of mine has been helping to head up the Extortion 17 Memorial Ride for the past 2 years. When I spoke to her about needing a photographer she immediately said 'YES!' This cause is so close to my heart...so many of our friends are a part of the SEAL community in some way. I was so moved all day long by the overwhelming support and patriotism that the people of this area exudes.

I was asked to photograph a couple of bands at a local venue. I reluctantly agreed; I had no idea how concert photography was going to compare to the natural light photography I'm so use to. I had a BLAST!! And the pictures came out better than I expected! The headlining band that night was Like A Storm.
